About the Image Collage Maker

Combining several photos into one image is a staple of social media, real-estate listings, event recaps, and product showcases — but most collage apps either slap a watermark across the finished piece or require a paid subscription to remove it. The Image Collage Maker composites photos into a grid on a canvas in your browser, exports a clean PNG or JPG with no watermark, and sends nothing to a server.

Choose from seven layouts: 2×1 side by side, 1×2 stacked, 2×2 four-cell grid, 3×1 row, 1×3 column, 3×3 nine-cell grid, or an uneven split with one large cell and two smaller cells alongside it. Each cell accepts a photo by clicking to upload or dragging an image directly onto it. Photos are scaled with cover-fit — the cell is always filled edge to edge, cropping overflow from the center — so the collage looks intentional rather than letterboxed. A border thickness slider (0–60 px) and a border color picker let you add a frame between cells, whether a thin white gap or a thick colored boundary.

Three canvas shapes are available: Square (1080×1080), Landscape (1350×1080) and Portrait (1080×1350), matching the most common Instagram output sizes. The live preview redraws as you swap layouts, add images or adjust the border, so you can see the final result before downloading. This makes it equally useful for quick social posts and for polished print-ready composites.

How to Use the Image Collage Maker

  1. Pick a layout from the buttons — 2×2, 3×3, uneven split, or any of the other grid options.
  2. Choose a canvas shape: Square, Landscape or Portrait.
  3. Click an empty cell in the preview (or drag a photo onto it) to add an image to that slot.
  4. Hover over a filled cell and click the ✕ to swap it out or clear it.
  5. Move the border thickness slider and click the border color swatch to frame the cells.
  6. Click Download PNG or Download JPG to export the finished collage at the full canvas resolution.

Why Use ToolForge’s Image Collage Maker

  • No watermark on the export — ever. Other free collage tools add branding to the image or require account creation to remove it.
  • Cover-fit per cell means every photo fills its slot edge to edge with no awkward letterbox bars.
  • Live canvas preview updates in real time as you change layout, photos, or borders — what you see is what you download.
  • Entirely browser-based with no file upload, so private photos — family events, client work — stay on your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use photos of different sizes and orientations?

Yes. Each cell applies cover-fit scaling independently, so a landscape photo and a portrait photo placed side by side both fill their cells fully. If important content (faces, text) is near the edges of a photo, it may be cropped — center it in the original image first, or use a layout where the cell's aspect ratio already matches your photo.

What is the output resolution?

Square exports at 1080×1080 px, Landscape at 1350×1080 px, and Portrait at 1080×1350 px — the same dimensions recommended by Instagram for posts. These are suitable for social media publishing or printing at small sizes. If you need a higher-resolution export for large-format print, the canvas size options can be extended in a future version.

Can I swap a photo in an existing slot?

Click any filled cell — it opens the file picker so you can choose a replacement. The previous image is discarded and the new photo is drawn into the same cell immediately. Alternatively, hover the cell and click the ✕ to clear it to empty, then click to add a fresh photo.

Is there a watermark on the downloaded image?

No — the download is a clean PNG or JPG with no ToolForge branding. The canvas is exported directly to a file with no overlay added.
